Yes, I am still an Independent... which means that in the real world, I will choose the lesser of two evils at presidentiual-election time, until the scenario is changed to offer more choices. That being the case, here someone asks the question:

Although Democrats have been taking a beating at election time, polls keep indicating broad public support for Democratic ideas and ideals, and dissatisfaction with the direction and aims of Bush and his party. There seem to be a lot of people out there who, for one reason or another, don't know they're Democrats. If you have any of these people among your friends and acquaintances, you might want to pass along this statement of Democratic beliefs and values to help them realize who they really are:

COULD YOU BE A DEMOCRAT?

Democrats believe in self government -- based in the widest possible participation of all citizens from all walks of life, as opposed to government controlled mostly or exclusively by elite and powerful, but limited, interests.

Democrats believe that government must be useful and responsive. They disdain empty grandiosity and dishonest pomp -- a staged landing on an aircraft carrier or a fake townhall, for instance -- designed to glorify officials and promote awe of government authority rather than respect for democracy and democratic power.

Democrats abhor (and will rebel against) government that is narrow, self-interested and authoritarian (the kind of government today's Republicans, or at least the limited, powerful interests who now control the party, seek).

Democrats believe that democratic government is the best tool ever devised to bring the diverse people, interests and resources of a complex society together to effectively solve common, society-wide problems or to achieve important society-wide goals.

Democrats don't "believe" in "big" government, but they do understand that solutions to big problems, or the achievement of big goals -– protecting the elderly, meeting our moral obligations to the vulnerable, disabled and ill, protecting natural resources, defending our homeland, exploring space, recovering from economic or natural disaster, finding solutions to our energy and other kinds of crisis, etc. -- require big resources that often can be most efficiently, or only, marshaled and distributed through government actions in which the people broadly participate and that they broadly support. Democrats believe in government big enough -- but no bigger than necessary -- to accomplish the job at hand.

Democrats believe the people have the right to, and, in the cause of protecting their liberty must, limit and protect themselves from ALL abuses of POWER -- whether it is the abuse of government power or private power.

Democrats differ from today's conservative Republicans in that they are idealists rather than ideologues. They believe in the inherent potential for good in people, and in the ability of people to create good by working together. They do not, like the Republicans, believe in their own moral superiority or in the absolute, infallible truth of their own ideas.

Democrats believe that there are sacred principles, but that there are no sacred ideas.

Democrats believe in individual rights, personal liberty and personal responsibility. But they believe equally in social responsibility, community service and public obligation. They understand that finding the right balance between these competing values –- between the rights of the private man and the obligations of the public citizen -- is one of the most important, and difficult, jobs of citizenship and politics.

Democrats are guided by undying moral and humanitarian principles rather than constantly changing social "values." These principles are honesty, fair play, social justice, economic morality, political equality, freedom of conscience, individual integrity, respect for others regardless of station in life, gender, race, religion or inherited resources and privilege, and, an undying commitment to self-government free of the authoritarian coercion of church, monarch or, in this modern age, corporate or other elite and unaccountable power.

Democrats are the inheritors of this nation's Enlightenment and revolutionary tradition. We represent the democratic passion of Tom Payne, the pragmatic problem solving of Ben Franklin, the self-confidence and faith in and respect for humanity expressed in the Declaration of Independence.

The Republicans, as they now are constituted, on the other hand, have chosen to align themselves with the Tory tradition of church, crown and military coercion. As well as with the Southern planter tradition of brutality and empty, self congratulatory "aristocracy."
Considering all this, on which side do you think you really belong?

White House Lies and Lies and Lies About Judicial Nominees

WHITE HOUSE PUSHES FLATLY FALSE CLAIM ABOUT JUDGES: Speaking on Air Force One yesterday, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said, "What has happened in this Senate is unprecedented. There has not been a situation like this, where members of one party have blocked nominees from even receiving an up or down vote on the floor."
Yes, they are claiming that no one ever used the fillibuster until now, when those big meanies, the Democrats, invented it. As usual, the republicans are LYING.
"In fact, there have been many situations like this. In the late 1990s, "more than 50 Clinton nominees were not even granted a hearing by the GOP-led Judiciary Committee." Overall, "35 percent of Clinton's appeals court nominees were blocked without a vote while the GOP controlled the Senate from 1995 to 2000." In contrast, Congress has approved more than 95 percent of President Bush's judicial nominees.

I swear, I don't know which is worse sometimes: not knowing what sort of Machiavellian schemes they get up to; or actually being aware of it.

Ever wonder where they got this a**hole, Bolton, anyway? His nonimation as ambassador to the U.N. is payback for his role in the BFEE coup of 2000.

Bolton was part of the legal team and a ballot observer in Palm Beach County. Then he rushed to Tallahassee as the recount battle reached higher courts. It was his role, on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, to burst into a library where workers were recounting Miami-Dade ballots and relay news of the U.S. Supreme Court's stay in the on-again, off-again presidential recount. "I'm with the Bush-Cheney team, and I'm here to stop the count," he was quoted as saying in news reports at the time.

Recollections of Elections

This is what someone wrote in an email to BartCop back on April 22.
I live in Iowa and worked hard for the Dean campaign. The Kerry thing came out of nowhere and is quite suspicious.

If you look online at the records of Iowa donations Kerry was low on the list compared to the other candidates. He was like fourth or fifth on the list. But if you look at the list, now unavailable to the public, of Republicans who switched parties in order to participate in the Iowa caucus, youâll see a suspiciously large number. Add to that the fact that the local papers started 'reporting' that droves of Democrats were flocking to Kerry because Dean was 'unelectable' and you start to see a pattern.

Most of the Democrats that I talked to who had switched to Kerry only did so after they read that Dean was unelectable and everyone else was going over to Kerry. It was coordinated and slimy. The Iowa debacle was not the voice of the people. I can't say exactly what happened, but there was some political hanky panky going on. Don't generalize Iowans because some sort of political machine rose up and skewed the results.
I know, this is more useless old news from the past, right? Except that we should never forget what happened; in '00, and '04... this is what happens when we let our guard down.

Okay, I originally meant to add some commentary to this, but I saved it wrong and it posted without said commentary and Oh, No! Now I run the risk of offending someone with this not-at-all politically correct thing. So, hey there, southerners! I know you just love this sort of thing, right? Of course you do! Don't ever worry that the blue-state "intellectual elite" isn't still paying attention. Besides: it's all true!

I particularly enjoy the information regarding divorce rates, and of course the fact that the blue states provide the tax revenue, while the red states consume it, complaining about liberalism the whole time. Ingrates.

By the way, I know this is old and I borrowed it from someone else's site. But somehow, it just keeps on staying timely and relevant. Hmm.

Not Fonda Book Signings?

By now, we've all heard about the guy who spit in Jane Fonda's face at a book signing. Bartcop said:
They don't mind that Reagan/Bush stole the 1980 election thru treason. They don't mind that Ollie North supplied terrorists with planeloads of weapons. They don't mind that Reagan lied to America about arms for hostages. They don't mind that Cocaine George deserted his post during wartime. But smiling with the enemy? That they cannot forgive. Maybe if Fonda had apologized 2,489 times instead of 2,488? That same punk probably had a chance to spit in John Kerry's face but he was too afraid. But he was plenty brave when attacking an elderly woman.
Indeed. And the guy ended up getting his book signed, too.

Can Bush Ever Stop Lying?



In an April 15th story, "Bush proclaims belief in open government," Bush said
"I believe in open government," the president said. "I've always believed in open government."
As usual, he was lying. Bush & Co. prefer to operate their presidency in secret: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11... you can find sources for days. And don't even get me started on the fact that he's appeared at fewer press conferences than any president since Taft. Wisely so, given his pathetic inability to communicate, his broad ignorance of anything not profitable to the Neocon agenda, and his sneering contempt for the press and the public. Besides, he probably gets fidgety while they are attaching the wires.

When he says he believes in open government, it is a sarcastic insult to us all. What he is really saying is, "Try to stop me, you worthless chumps."

How many of you would like to go 5 minutes in the ring with the Monkey?

Missing a Piece of the Puzzle?

I guess anyone who reads my blog (all five-or-so of you) knows by now that I love the internet information source Wikipedia. Well, I was perusing their site researching some unrelated heinous info when, what should I find... Holy Shit! George Bush and John Kerry are first cousins ("several times removed")!

First cousins and co-members of Skull and Bones! That's who the Democrats put up as a candidate against the BFEE?

Why does the world continue to present itself as a puzzle that creates a more bizarre picture with each piece that is put into place?

UPDATE II: US Relied on 'Drunken Liar' to Justify War. Of course. George Bush probably felt so comfortable with another drunken liar that there was immediate camaraderie.
An alcoholic cousin of an aide to Ahmed Chalabi has emerged as the key source in the US rationale for going to war in Iraq... the basis for pivotal intelligence... was a spy described as 'crazy'... and a 'congenital liar'... Despite considerable doubts over [his] credibility, his claims were included in the administration's case for war without caveat... His information... was widely used by President Bush and Dick Cheney to make their case for war... the intelligence community was willing to believe him 'because the tales he told were consistent with what they already believed.'
In other words, as we have said before, Bush and the PNAC Neocons told their intelligence agencies to assemble a case for war where none existed, so they could use it to DUPE THE AMERICANS INTO WAGING AN UNNECESSARY WAR!

UPDATE III: While he was Just Observing, Watch-n-Wait noticed that:
"The State Department decided to stop publishing an annual report on international terrorism after the government's top terrorism center concluded that there were more terrorist attacks in 2004 than in any year since 1985, the first year the publication covered."
In other words: Bush & Co. are losing the war on terror! Want to know why? Because they had no intention of winning it! They are the terrorists, and they are perpetuating the war for their own profit!

UPDATE IV: U.S. ‘oppression’ harsher than Saddam Hussein’s, Iraqis say.
They said U.S. troops storm houses, arrest women and children and use “oppression” on a scale they had not seen under the long reign of the former dictator Saddam Hussein.

Not All Christians Want To Kill You

Really! Here is a site operated by a Christian couple who wisely describe how their Christian values are in direct conflict with the fascist Neocon agenda. Here's how they descibe themselves:
"We are very concerned about how the Gospel and Scripture are (mis-)represented in popular culture, religious media and the churches, and how truth in general is mis-represented by the neo-conservative wealth elite in the current administration and in other key segments of our cultural and national life. These things have dreadful implications for all present and future residents of our planet."
They have some wonderful posts, like this one called "American Congress 'Grossly Wicked'? Jesus Calls Its Values 'Detestable'," and another that points out how, like Bush and his cohorts, "Hitler Defended Christian Morality & Family Values."

I have been accused in the past of being anti-Christian, which I am not. You won't find derogatory remarks about Christians in my blog, although you will find much criticism of fundamentalist theocratic neocon sympathizers of all religions. I probably live by a more Christian code of ethics than many Christians do, but I don't go around proclaiming it (for one thing, I am not a Christian, although I appreciate philosophies from many diverse sources).

Anyway, the site above is one example of many out there which remind us that there are Christians out there who try to live by His teachings, rejecting the neocon agenda of greed, murder, hypocrisy, and evil. More power to them :)

"Our Country Has Been Overtaken By Murderous Thugs"

It is ironic how eloquently some can describe the sheer horror of our political reality. This commentary was too good to simply assign to a link. It is from a speech given by by Cindy Sheehan, co-founder of Gold Star Families For Peace
Thirty years ago, 1975, Gerald Ford was President of the United Sates. His Chief of Staff was Dick Cheney. His Secretary of Defense was Donald Rumsfeld. Paul Wolfowitz was heading-up the international arms-control end of things. All of these positions related directly to national security. While these men were looking after the nation's safety, they and President Ford concluded that Iran needed to supplement its energy system by adding nuclear power. The nuclear energy project that these men approved would have netted certain US corporations billions of dollars. Had the Shah of Iran...a blood-bought servant of US corporate interests...not soon been overthrown by his own countrymen, the big-wigs at Westinghouse or General Electric...or perhaps both...would have amassed personal fortunes from this one project, alone. Some of the stockholders would have also made bundles on the deal.

In 1975 my son had not yet been born. Today he is in his grave. Dick Cheney, on the other hand, is now Vice President of the United States, and he is materially wealthy beyond what any of us would ever pray to be. This is the same Dick Cheney who during the months leading-up to the invasion of Iraq said that Saddam Hussein not only has stockpiles of Weapons of Mass Destruction...more than a hundred metric tons of the deadly stuff...but he also said that Saddam Hussein was well-advanced in developing nuclear weapons and that therefore the US must invade Iraq and dethrone Saddam Hussein. Clean, quick, and simple according to Dick Cheney. Yet for some time now he has changed his tune. He now says...as if he had said it all along...that the US occupation of Iraq will require years of difficult and sometimes bloody conflict before it will be stable enough to bring our loved ones home. And too, rather than speak of Weapons of Mass Destruction, he now uses the word "democracy" a lot.

Is there yet an American who can not clearly see that Dick Cheney...whether it be 1975 or 2005...will say whatever he thinks is required to ultimately cause wealth and power to move to himself and to his friends? ...need I defile this holy place with words like "Halliburton" and "Kellog, Brown & Root" and "torture" and "US weapons industry"? Indeed, the Apostle Paul is correct in saying that, ultimately, the love of money leads to ruin and destruction.

Read... and you will understand that the horrid price we and the people of Iraq have paid to discover that Saddam's Weapons Of Mass Destruction had already been destroyed is not due to any failure at the U.S. intelligence agencies, it is in fact a validation of U.S. intelligence agencies... Rumsfeld was well-informed, by knowledgeable people within the Intelligence community, that Saddam had been stripped clean of such weapons, that Saddam's ability to reconstitute such weapons' programs had also been destroyed, and that any moves Saddam might have made in that direction would have been observed and stopped, forthwith.

Is there anyone in America who cannot yet see that Donald Rumsfeld is a liar...that he, as with Hitler and Stalin....will say anything so long as he thinks it will help shape the world to his own liking? Is there even one, sane adult among us who cannot see that Donald Rumsfeld is a threat to our nation's security and to peace on our beloved earth?

Paul Wolfowitz, after months of not finding any Weapons of Mass Destruction....and after hundreds of US soldiers were killed....my son amongst them....and after tens of thousands of innocent Iraq citizens were killed....this same Paul Wolfowitz casually explained....with his kindly charade and his ever so soft voice...that a decision was made to put forth "Weapons of Mass Destruction" as the need for the invasion. Essentially, Paul Wolfowitz admitted that he and his fellow conspirators had decided amongst themselves "...let's just go with the bit about Weapons of Mass Destruction. It's the one thing that will scare the American people enough so as to cause them to get behind this invasion."

As soft-spoken and sincere-sounding as Paul Wolfowitz is, is there yet any sane adult in this country who's skin does not crawl when this murderous liar opens his mouth and speaks? Am I the only person in this room who clearly sees that Paul Wolfowitz is a threat to our nation's security...and to peace on our beloved earth?"

30 years ago these 3 men gave the green light to Iran so that Iran could hire US companies to go there and build a 6.4 billion dollar nuclear power facility. ...no doubt the final bill would have been at least three times that much. Yet Dick Cheney recently said this of Iran's current intentions to add nuclear power to their energy system: Quote...."They are already sitting on an awful lot of oil and gas. Nobody can figure why they need nuclear to generate energy"....end of quote. Did these men not notice, 30 years ago, while they and their cohorts were being wined and dined by the Shah, that his opulent surroundings were bought and paid for with oil and gas that was being taken from the ground beneath their feet? Yet these men agreed, clear back then, that Iran needed to add nuclear power to their energy system. It is now 30 years and God only knows how many tens of millions of barrels of oil, later. Why should we believe these men....who we know are liars....when they now say that Iran's primary motive for wanting nuclear power is so that they can make nuclear weapons with which to destroy us and our allies? Even now, the International Atomic Energy Agency reports that there is no evidence that Iran has a nuclear weapons program. The Bush administrations response? They are trying to oust the agency's lead inspector, Mohammed al-Baradei. But who can forget that it was Mr. al-Baradei and the International Atomic Energy Agency who, during the months prior to the invasion of Iraq, reported that Saddam no longer had a nuclear weapons programs.

Our country has been overtaken by murderous thugs....gangsters who lust after fortunes and power; never caring that their addictions are at the expense of our loved ones, and the blood of innocent people near and far. We've watched these thugs parade themselves before the whole world as if they are courageous advocates for Christian moral values....and for the spread of democracy. Yet we all know that they are now putting in place, all across this country, a system of voting that provides no way to validate the accuracy of the counting of the votes. Our loved ones have been buried in early graves even as these arrogant thugs parade themselves before the entire world, insisting that democracy is worth dying for, killing for, and destroying entire cities for, all the while they are busy here at home overseeing the emplacement of an electronic voting system that invites fraud at every turn, an electronic vote-counting system that provides no way to validate the votes cast, and that, by it's very design, prohibits recounting the votes.

For these men to not see to it that our own system of voting and vote-counting is accurate, understandable and verifiable... all the while sending our loved ones to kill and to die so as to establish a democracy in some far away place... this is just one more staggering piece of evidence that the US government is now ruled by murderous hypocrites...criminals who should be arrested, charged appropriately, confined behind bars, and then tried in a court of law... not only here in our own country, but also in all the other countries which have suffered their incomprehensible greed. In their secret hiding places, while celebrating newly won fortunes with their fellow brass, these men must surely congratulate themselves with orgies of carnal pleasure as they mock the multitudes who are yet so blind as to mistake them for God's devoted servants.
You know what? The best place for evil to hide is in plain sight.

Wow, I'm back! I haven't posted anything since April 4th, so I hope no one has forgotten me...

So, who remembers newsgroups? Anyone? NNTP? Usenet? Those who are familiar with them know that they are the oh-so-addictive precursor to blogging. Yeah, they're still out there, and they are still as active as ever. To those who are not familiar with them... I'll bet you'd like 'em!

There are newsgroups for every topic under the sun, and I am not using that as a figure of speech - I mean everything, from boring shop talk to hobbies and interests to the most depraved extremities of human endeavor, and all points in bewteen. There are some I look on regularly, but the ones I want to draw attention to here are the political ones. One, for example, is alt.impeach.bush (I use outlook express as a newsreader, but the link goes to Google groups for those who don't). To those who've never explored newsgroups, you'll find them a bit more raw than blogs. Lots more name-calling, like "rightards," "leftards," "fucktards," and various other types of 'tards. In alt.impeach.bush, look for posts by Roedy Greene, a favorite of mine, or Harry Hope; there are others. You might even see something from me!

Okay, I must apologize again, it's been a tough couple of weeks and I have not posted nearly enough. I have been shamefully lacking in content here, but I'll try to get back to it soon.

"Send Me!"

I did not foresee my having to announce this already, but alright. I can roll with the punches. It has come to my attention that it is time to choose a new head of the Catholic church. Therefore, I am announcing my candidacy for the office of Pope.

I do not take my responsibilities lightly. I go into this endeavor knowing full well the obstacles faced by the previous Pope – a staff overrun with repressed sexual deviants; a horde of faithful followers who refuse papal directives to stop having sex themselves, as well as refusing to stop using birth control; rampant Bingo; and a two-millenia-old budget that includes such hard-to-categorize assets as illuminated manuscripts and golden statues (or as I like to call them, “not-idols”). Not to mention the killer tour schedule established by the previous Pope – it’s like the church was being headed up by Chuck Berry or something.

What are my qualifications? Well, for one thing, my body type lends itself to the flowing-robe wardrobe quite handily. I do not, as a rule, wear hats, but I certainly would if they looked like giant French-fry containers, they way the Pope hats do. I’ve always appreciated alternative fashion.

I don’t have a degree in theology, although I have done a little amateur investigation, and, no Christian could deny that I have spent my entire life in the presence of God, under His divine scrutiny, carrying out His plan. Anyone who says otherwise is claiming they speak for him – blasphemy!

I have no prior experience as a member of the Catholic clergy, although I did attend a Catholic school for 1 year (4th grade), so I have seen what sort of things they get up to. Really, you can say practically anything to a layman in Latin and they’ll feel anointed for the rest of the week.

One area where I do have priestly experience is in receiving confession. I am one of those to whom others with problems come to self-disclose. I have one of those confessional faces, I suppose. But I can certainly give absolution with the best of them.

Like Pope John Paul, I oppose the war in Iraq.

One obstacle to my ascendancy to the papacy would be the fact that I am married. Well, I say, if they can let go of the inquisition, they can accept a married Pope. Personally, I think the faithfull would like it. They love American first ladies (usually), so a papacy with a feminine side (or a “better-half” if you will) would probably meet with wide support.

So there is my announcement, my candidacy for Pope is laid out. Please send your endorsements to Rome. Good luck and Godspeed to us all.

Unfiltered Sadness

OMG... What happened? No more Unfiltered on Air America? They chose my favorite show to sack? AAUUGGHH!

I'm not kidding here. This will be hard to get over. Unfiltered was the greatest. I love Air America and their other shows, but to lose that one... I am truly saddened. And I don't mean that as a figure of speech. This is a loss. And, to rub salt in the wound, they have replaced it with a new radio show hosted by Jerry Springer.

I am saddened.
