Quid Pro Quo

Roberts was one of the usurpers of 2000: Quiet role in Florida recount - In the aftermath of the disputed 2000 presidential election, Roberts played a key, if quiet, role in the Florida recount. Although his name did not appear on the briefs, three sources who were personally aware of Roberts's role said he gave Gov. Jeb Bush (R) critical advice on how the Florida Legislature could constitutionally name George W. Bush the winner at a time when Republicans feared that if the recount were to continue the courts might force a different choice.

Now he's being named to the supreme court as payment for his loyalty to Bush (and against the will of the majority of the American people). This government is like a bunch of underworld thugs.

I think this is a little conspiracy theorish, don't you, Shea?

Keep in mind too, Shea, when we talk about voting demographics we can hardly use them as representative of the people of the United States when less than 30% of eligible voters vote.

I think that "nepotism" is also just typical of government in general. The good 'ol boy system was in place long before Bush took office. Of course, it doesn't make it any more excusable.

Jack, I agree about the problem with demographics and low voter participation. As for the conspiracy theory part, well, those of us in the "Gore Won In 2000!" camp see Roberts' participation in that episode as a baaaad thing.

Apparently mutual back rubbing is more important than ensuring the continuation of female representation in the highest court of the land.

(btw, the blog's looking really sharp, Shea!)

Agree with SAR--the site looks great, Shea!

Sar needs to go to Neo-libs to get in on the conversation about female representation. I think everyone there realized that the court wasn't about representing anything, but rather about interpreting the law.

Anyhow...

Shea, you are one of the first people I have run into who still maintain that Gore won! You 'ol diehard you!

Yup, I won't give up on that one! It came up a lot around the last election. I should make a special section of "Gore Won" links.
