Tip o' the Hat

I recommend Romablog's post called War's a Goddamned Thing. He reminds his readers that the best way to understand the horrors of war is to imagine what it would be like to be on the receiving end of America's version of "spreading democracy."

Howdy, Shea!

I just found your blog! I didn't realize you had your own here. Will add it to my favs.

It seems like we have two factions concerning war. Those who believe it is wrong under any circumstance, and others who think it is always justified. No balance, thought or reasonable thought behind either of those positions.

I DO agree though, that if America thinks that it's role is to "spread democracy" through the world, then we are sadly mistaken. Many nations don't want it, others don't particularly deserve it because they are unwilling to pay the price for it.

Assisting those who want it is one thing, but toppling governments for that reason is another.

Regards,

Hello, Jack, thanks for stopping by. You know what I think about "spreading democracy?" People have to establish their own democracies, or else they won't "stick." It's their responsibility to create the government they really want. However, it woudl seem that many people on this planet really do want crappy governments!

And Romablog, hey, those rants are worth reading!
