What "Conservatism" Hath Wrought

You would be hard-pressed to find many criticisms of "conservatism" in my blog. I criticise the republican party and neoconservitism, but I rarely go after conservatism itself. Nevertheless, it was those who define themselves as conservatives that joyously placed the Bush regime in power and celebrated the results (they were for Bush before they were against him). Whether supportive through the siren call of "low taxes", or the promise of a transformation toward a christian theocracy, or the sheer avarice of corporate greed, this sort of thing is their legacy: "The Pentagon set rules Thursday for detainee trials that could allow terror suspects to be convicted and perhaps executed using hearsay testimony and coerced statements".

How sad for us all that modern conservatism strives to recreate the worst aspects of tyranical dictatorship in America. This, along with their complicity in the boundless corruption of the republican party, will be their legacy.

Well, you have Dubya to thank for that. And his "compassionate conversative" BS.

No telling, Shea, how long that bit of foulness is gonna last. Keep hopes up that someway, somehow, the Dems can find a way to hogtie that whole crew.
