That's what it seems like to me and it's approaching rapidly.
Well, the reason I throw the US & Bush into the equation is that the US backs Israel in the fight, with more than just words, I think.
You are quite correct Shea. The United States does support Israel. The support systems date back to the cold war where The Soviet Union backed the Arab States and we supported Israel. That made all those Arab Israeli wars proxy wars with the Soviets. We supplied Israel with state of the art U. S. arms while the Soviets supplied Arabs with their best hardware. The dynamic with Israel has not altered simply because the Soviet Union is no more. Oddly enough, you will recall, Iran was also an American ally during most of the cold war. It is only that Islamic fundamentalists came to power that has made us “the great Satan”. All this stuff is dynamic and complicated, but could not possibly be anymore interesting. No?
A nice pleasant chardonnay for me this evening.
Interesting indeed... and always leads me to think that finding alternatives to petroleum should be a high priority. I can't recall the details, but I could have sworn there was a time that we were simultaneously supplying arms to both sides of the Arab/Israeli conflict. We certainly seem to be in bed with the Saudis and the Israelis at the same time.
A cheap, half-empty, re-corked bottle of white merlot for me this evening!
You know, I'd like to live long enough to pay off my student loans and fall in love. Methinks war with Iran will quelch those dreams.
It would... but I hope things work out so that you achieve those goals 8^)
Yes. You are correct. We are also friendly with the Saudis. Those gulf states were never as friendly with the Russians as the other Arab states. They were awash in oil and as a result had little military interests. The Saudis have always maintained a small, but high tech defense force knowing that if they were in a jam they could call 911 and we would answer and that's exactly what we did in August 1990 . American interests were better served by us taking their call as opposed to the Russians. And, that for sure, is all about oil. And you are correct on the alternative fuel matter. Internal combustion will come to an end and they can all go back to eating "sand"wichs. And that will leave us to deal with virulent strains of Islam which desire to destroy western civilization and return to the Caliphate and that has nothing to do with American foreign policy during the past six years or during the past sixty for that matter. Our only hope in avoiding a thirty years war will be for Islam to have the collective will and ability to tamp down these viruses by itself.
No, I don't think Dubya.The.Vile.Prick wants to hasten "armageddon." I do believe, however, that he has developed a downright love for killing. Psychopath, sociopath, mass murderer. Just pick one. Actually, all 3 combined would probably be closer to the truth.
old broad-Sounds like you haven't had your tires rotated recently.
OMFG....please tell me this is not true!
make love not war!! think peace
Q: Does self-proclaimed-born-again-christian-evangelical George W. Bush want to create armageddon? Is that what he perceives as his mission on earth?
A: We certainly hope not... but alas, everything this man touches turns into a clusterfuck of mammoth proportions, so probably yes.
Not to mention the fact the very fiends who actively were the architects of this war, (Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle) have been stirring up the same scary cauldron of warmongering & regime change in the Middle East in Israel since at least 1996, when both were acting as consultants to Benjamin Natanyahu’s election campaign. It would appear that all one needs for a recipe for a clusterfuck somewhere in the world is:
1. The PNAC
2. Neo-Cons
3. Pinch of fundamentalist religious fanaticism (sadly, ANY religion will do).
4. Sprinkle of hegemony.
5. Dose of bigotry.
Combine all ingredients into a warmongering dish, buttered well by a corporate whore media, and *voila*... You have instant clusterfuck that will make any Religious Frighter proud!
