Picked From Usenet Newsgroups I: UPDATE

See Update at bottom of post

I've saved a crapload of stuff from Usenet meanderings, so I'm gonna start cleaning out my "save" folder and sharing it with you!

Here we go, kicking off with a statement by Rush Limbaugh from 1988:
"And now the liberals want to stop President Reagan from selling chemical warfare agents and military equipment to Saddam Hussein, and why? Because Saddam 'allegedly' gassed a few Kurds in his own country. Mark my words. All of this talk of Saddam Hussein being a 'war criminal' or 'committing crimes against humanity' is the same old thing. LIBERAL HATE SPEECH! And speaking of poison gas... I SAY WE ROUND UP ALL THE DRUG ADDICTS AND GAS THEM." - Rush Limbaugh, Nov. 3, 1988
Okay, it was pointed out that this quote was false, so I want to retract it now - let no one say that we propogate disinformation like the right-wing propaganda slime generators who support the Bush regime. Here is the site which describes the true source of the quote.

Now, just so no one is disapointed (too much), here are some various RL quotes. It's actually not too easy to find quotes from the 80's, but I will keep an eye out for them. I remember hearing him in the 80's, when the Reagan-Bush administration was giving (our tax) money and WMD's to Saddam Hussein, and I'm sure RL supported that wholeheartedly.

OMFG... I was taking a big sip of hot Chai tea while reading THAT... note to self: Avoid hot beverages when reading Rusty Dick Limp-balls' quotes.

That quote is PRICELESS.

And that was probably him being nice!

We should start a blog of "hoof in mouth" pronouncements.

HA!

That fucking rox, dude.

The awesome thing, also, about usenet is that now you can pull a TON of stuff archived on google.

Yes indeed! Arm the bastards so you can have a reason to invade them a few years down the road. This is classic Republican SOP.

I was saying this a long while back. The reason why folks were not questioning the WMD idea was that all they need do was check the receipts on our weapons sales.

And Limbaugh was their Sales Rep!

Thanks for sharing. Sometimes I forget how absolutely insane that man is. . .

Sorry, YG. I hate when it happens, but at least we do have quotes from him that illustrate his hypocrisy about the drug abuse.

"but it does sound like something the asshole would say."

Same old defense everytime they find out the quote is a phony: "Sure sounds like something he would say". Baloney. How would you know? If you were the least bit familiar with what he would say, you would have seen a mile off that the quote was a fake.

Anonymous, I've listened to Limbaugh off and for about twenty years, and I know him far better than you know. The quote is exactly what he would say. Besides, we have no real verification that he didn't say it. Snopes isn't proof, just an accepted standard.

"I've listened to Limbaugh off and for about twenty years"

Amazing how you accomplished this. Considering the fact that he hasnt been on the air in syndication that long. He was on the air from 1984-1988 locally in Sacramento. It was in 1988 did he get his start in national syndication with only 56 stations. When your local radio station started airing him, I'm not too sure, but I KNOW that you havent been listening to him for 20 years! Impossible!

"and I know him far better than you know"

You do not know him at all. It is I that knows him far better than YOU know.

"Besides, we have no real verification that he didn't say it. Snopes isn't proof, just an accepted standard."

Oh wow! Talk about self delusion! Talk about a refusal to face reality! Snopes is indeed proof. Sorry, but dismissing it with a wave of your hand doesnt make it go away. You were handed the verification that he didn't say it.

"to whom I have listened off and on for about twenty years, as I said before"

Right there is where you kinda shade the truth. Yeah, you listened to him off and on for almost as long as he's been on the air. But I'll bet it was more off than on. A mere handful of times over the years. That hardly qualifies you as an expert on Limbaugh, I've been listening to him EVERY DAY since September 1990. Bought his books, his videos, watched every episode of his old tv show, etc.

"You do not know him at all. It is I that knows him far better than YOU know." is laughably childish."

But accurate.

"By the way, if you think Snopes is the be-all and end-all of absolute truth on the internet, here's something I found there: it said you're an asshole. "

Um, you were lecturing me about "laughingly childish"? If one wants to know what a liberal is up to, watch what he accuses others of doing.

LOL - "Shade the truth" by being accurate? Right. I forgot you on the "right" shun reality and fear anything that isn't portrayed in absolutes. Details make those little brains seize up and cry "Nuance! Nuance!"

"I've been listening to him EVERY DAY since September 1990."

Youch. If that's true then I pity you. I don't mean that as a figure of speech, either. I really pity you.
