No More Apologies

I have been so bad about posting in my blog that, quite frankly, my apologies are beginning to annoy even me. My few remaining loyal readers and blog buddies deserve better.

Do any of you remember when I was at my blogging peak (i.e., the good old days)? I used to get comments like, “Man, where do you find those amazing links?”, and, “Right on, well said!”, and, “You’re pathetic, you liberal socialist un-American unpatriotic unreligious worm… you’ll become one of us someday, you’ll see!”

Yeah, there was a time when I would stay up all night composing eloquent and complex rebuttals to right-wing bloggers and their insipid, asinine commentary. And man, there were some fire-on-the-fingertips moments, believe me.

I began this blog in September 2004, hoping to add my voice to the many who knew how bad the BushCheney regime was, long before it became hip to be aware of it. It was a real uphill battle back then, remember? We were regarded as the fringe. Weirdos, hollering out in the green park of conservative consumerist complacency. The curtains were drawn in the McMansions where the worshippers at the alter of St. Ronnie could practice chants to “support the troops” and protect against the war on Christmas.

Still, we were riding high, us “Bush-haters” (that term was once used to dismiss us as shallow and reactionary; now it is simply a description of about 90% of the world’s population). Even in the face of adversity, we were the elite practitioners of reason in a sea of madness. I, for one, am extremely proud to say that I opposed the war against Iraq from day one, and said so at the time, before I ever even started blogging.

Like many, I was posting every day. I felt driven to do so, first to proclaim the importance of voting out Bush in 2004; then in response to the stolen election and the Kerry betrayal (concede my ass, Mr. Skull-N-Bones). At my peak I was contributing to three different blogs, one of which is based in France and is still successful, while the other fell apart after I left due to a troll (remind me to tell you that story).

But something happened… not just to me, but other blog-buddies of mine. Posts became less frequent, and some blogs folded up altogether (others continue with a vengeance and to them I offer my heartfelt thanks and compliments to their strength and perseverance). I think what happened is this: we expected the badness of the BushCheney administration to plateau and maintain at some point, at which time, it stands to reason, they would either have to be brought to justice, or at least be made to not commit any further treasonous and vile acts against this country or the rest of the world. But instead, it just got worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, until it seemingly could not get any worse at all. Then, just to make matters, well, worse… it did.

So here we are. And here I am: burned out somewhat and simply exhausted by the sheer enormity, the vastness, of the evil of the “right” and the harm the Bush administration has inflicted on our world. Every day I collect links to items about what they have done, and it is too much. I don’t mean that as a catchphrase, either. I mean there is so much horribleness to what they do, constantly and relentlessly, that it is too much to catalog and consume.

So, I guess I just need to simplify, rather than try to keep up with everything, and post more simply and more positively (WWTDLD*?) Early in the life of this blog, I promised I would carry it through at least until GWBush is removed from office. I can surely do that, and I hope to keep going and add my other artistic interests to the blog (I have said that before, but I always get overwhelmed by political issues and blog about those instead).

Please don’t sign me off just yet, blog buddies! (I wanted to say "my friends" but thanks to John McCain, I can never utter that phrase in good conscience again). I may be slow, but like Charley Brown’s Christmas tree, I have sincerity. Keep checking back!

Fabulous. I didn't realize that you'd been at it twice as long as I have. I had all of these dead blogs and I read the ones I link to. :) :)
We need you. You blazed the trail for me. Just throw up something once a week. I guess I'm lucky, I've only had a couple of annoying trolls and they eventually go away.

you can't let the bastards get you down. it's that simple. look- life as we know it is over. once you accept that and start to move forward- you realize that it's going to be the people with the ability to feel compassion coupled with real life skills who are going to survive. the economic mess is bad. but the reality is global climate change can't be fixed. if there is any consolation in the fact that money won't be able to buy these asshats out of the collapse that is coming- take it. i have. :) there is too much but don't be afraid to simply 'mark all as read' in the google reader. you have to break sometimes and live in the now. in the moment. the past has been bad; the present horrible and the future is looking horrific. but we have this moment right now that is lovely and for this moment we can breathe. take some time and post your artsy stuff or have a separate place for that. take the time. we are all in the same boat and the good news- we are up to 90% of the american population who finally acknowledges that the country is moving in the wrong direction. :) there may be hope yet.

Well...I guess I'm not the only one who hasn't been around, me a hell of alot less than you. Really missed reading your posts and several others. It's been way too long.

But, I'm jumpin' right back into the fray. Two new posts up, with more comming.

I'm very glad to see you're still around, Shea.

Missed your stuff.

nunya: Thanks so much for the kind words. I blazed that trail by accident, when I was fooling around with a lighter and, well, here we are. It worked for the guy who invented post-its, too!

betmo: "...there may be hope yet." between flashes of fury and angst, I sometimes feel that there my be hope after all. Even if it means that Meerkats will evolve into the dominant species on earth!

Grandpa Eddie: Wow, it's great to hear from you again! I'll look forward to catching up and ranting some more :)

Blogging is about the long run, not the short term. I always say, if it feels good, do it - but be sure to use a prophylactic if you are entering the political fray. It's a dirty game played nastily by the GOP.

Thanks for popping over to my location Shea....

Blog on friends, blog on all.

"until it seemingly could not get any worse at all. Then, just to make matters, well, worse… it did."
You may not write often, but when you do, you put your finger on our pulse. I haven't "quit blogging" per sae, but as Betmo alluded to, I've quit believing. I quit believing in the Democratic Party, for they are nothing but the left wing of the Republican party anymore, and their actions prove it. Then I took a hard look at blogging, and what it seemed to be all about. 99% of comments on blogs were used like pretend money - he who dies with the most comments wins. So I stopped commenting, except in rare cases, and used that formerly wasted time to read more. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I don't think it matters how much you say. People can talk all day every day, and not say a damn thing - just turn on your TV! I think it's what you do that talks for you.

What nearly put me on the canvas for good, was bloggers themselves. Bloggers that claimed to be full blooded Democrats, but the pages of their blogs were full of Right Wing hatred and methodology. It was then I was forced to accept, as Betmo said, "It was all over for us." Acceptance is a Bitch, as least for me. I want things to be my way.

I read a blogger quite some time ago, who spoke of much the same thing you did, and questioned themselves as to why they even kept trying. I recall their answer so well: "I think it's personal desperation; a refusal to let my head sink underwater." That speaks for me so well. Pure hatred of the Right Wing refuses to let me give up, no matter how much I might want to.

This post, as well as what your comenters said, was truly an uplifting experience in a barren landscape.

I've been blogging since Feb. 2005, and I couldn't add to what you said b/c you summed it up perfectly. I know some of my blog-slacking is due to having Lil Man 18 months ago and BabyGirl starting preschool last fall and kindergarten this fall, but I plan on hanging in there til Capt. Clusterfuck leaves office, too.
Now if the unspeakable happens... that is if McAncient McWar McConfused and Special Education Caribou Barbie slither into the Oval Office, I may simply explode..... or sneak into Canada..... or...... maybe begin a new raging rant against them a la my blog.
I don't know yet.
I may not be able to survive another unmitigated disasterous GOPrick administration.

Windspike: I shall blog on, and I'll try not to blog off (hey, wait a minute... that sounded dirty).

Future: Thanks, man. I've always thought we were like the little mammals surviving at the end of the dinosaurs' reign...we are survivng, and we'll win in the end!

Tina: You have definately been a busy gal, what with life getting in the way and all. I say, 18 months of age is NOT to young to begin assisting with blog duties, doing research, saving links... and if worse comes to worse... oh, Canada!

Mike V: If there's one thing I like, it's adjectives! I might have been called a few more things, too :)

I'd really love to see that.

Grandpa Eddie: I added another comment to your post and added the link. It's a head-shaker, that's for sure!

Thanks pal. I'll go check that out.
