Support the Troops !?

Why Won't President Bush Armor Our Soldiers?
A secret Pentagon study has found that as many as 80 percent of the marines who have been killed in Iraq from wounds to the upper body could have survived if they had had extra body armor. Such armor has been available since 2003, but until recently the Pentagon has largely declined to supply it to troops despite calls from the field for additional protection, according to military officials.
Because lives are expendable to the neocons. Don't believe their rhetoric. Don't be seduced by their propaganda. They couldn't care less about the troops. To the neocons, the troops are simply tools, to be used and discarded. And people think our government supports the troops? Please.

UPDATE: Yeah, right. As usual, they suddenly see the light as soon as they're caught. This would never have happened if the first story, above, had not been publicized. That's why I keep calling them hypocrites. And it's also why we some media outlets, somewhere, who are willing to question authority.

sadly, the media is just another special interest lobbyist these days who does little more than appease the politicians so they can get their legislation passed.

And you are right about how this administration views the troops...cannon fodder and little more.

The parts aren't there yet.

Remember, they say one thing and do another...like they've done for the last 5 years.

I'll bet the oil ministry is well-armored!

You know who else is well armored AND better paid? The "contractors" over ther operating as mercenaries.
It's the privitization of war, too on the part of the repugs.
And like Jim from Mission Impossible, they will pretend like they don't even know who they are when they fuck something up royally.

Shea, I agree with you about troops being expendable. But that didn't start with the "neocons". A troops purpose is to fight a war.

True, Jack, but in this century, knowing what we know, and having the resources that we do, it should be our responsibility to properly equip those troops. Otherwise, the politicians whom we entrust with that responsibility have no credibility when they spout rhetoric about supporting the troops.

I like the reference to contractors. When my brother was over there - he found several contractors doing his exact same job - but the big difference was that they were paid even triple to more times the salary he was getting and they were better equiped.

And who pays for the mercinaries? Taxpayers. So, how is it we can equip these other guys but not the poor folks in the US Military?
