Yup, it's independence day...


And everyone will be blogging the Declaration of Independence. You know what? So will I. Part of it, anyway. Because it is that important to remind ourselves that, eventually, we cannot tolerate the status quo anymore.

From the Declaration of Independence:
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another... whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends [life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness], it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government... experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
I tell ya, a lot of us are this close.

We're not enough, Shea. The majority of this country is cloaked in apathy, unaware of and unconcerned with the fact that we're headed to hell in a hand basket. This administration has already shown its contempt for the majority of Americans, so a few of us can do no good, I'm afraid.
